HISTORY ;;

Every wealthy city has its poor. Cerise spent her childhood in the closest thing the city of Conare has to a slum. Her father, an improvished shoemaker, and her mother, a kind but sad woman, did all they could to raise her and her elder brother well with the resources they had. While Cerise never complained about her situation and was always a sunny child, her brother longed to make more of himself. He'd sneak away almost every day to watch the wealthy and priveledged in the nicer parts of the city, a journey which Cerise was often wheedled into joining him on. Colin swore he'd be up there with them, some day, and Cerise had always told him she knew he would be ... despite never believing it to be true.

Tension rose in the family when Colin reached his teenaged years and refused to learn the trade from his father. Cerise rarely saw her brother those days. He'd leave home before the sun came up and be back after it went down. He'd tell his mother and father that he just didn't want to hear Dad railing on about the tradition of shoes, anymore, but when Cerise finally had the courage to ask him if he were telling the truth, Colin confided in her that he was not. He'd been doing some odd jobs, he said, and had earned some money. Not much, but it would grow, as money did, and if she gave him time, she'd see soon enough. Only twelve at the time, Cerise didn't know whether or not to believe him, but she couldn't deny the glint of gold he pulled from the pouch he had hidden in this tiny house.

Years went by, and still it continued. Colin left for days at a time, and tension only grew worse. Colin refused to tell his parents the real reason for his absences, no matter how much Cerise pleaded with him. He claimed to be making progress, but if Dad forbade him from working anymore, it could all crash, and he only needed a little longer to prove himself. Cerise kept his secret, and listened to him, and supported him, and waited, while she feared her family was falling apart, all for nothing.

Colin came home one day when she was nineteen, looking as smug as Cerise had ever seen him. He was dressed like a nobleman. Outside, there were four white horses pulling a splendid carriage. Speechless, Cerise accompanied her family into it and they rode from the home they had known into the great manse Colin had purchased for them.

Cerise learned the rest as time went on. Colin had become a legend among the many merchants of the West. They said that wherever he went, gold simply fell into his hands, that he may be the most brilliant businessman of Western history -- which was saying a great deal. He had an sense for business that few could compete with. He knew what to buy and sell, when to buy and sell it, who to invest in, who to get close to, where all the best deals were. He had amassed a fortune that was now so secure and so undeniable that there was nothing for their father to do but accept it, and be stoicly proud of the man his son had made himself into.

Colin made it very clear to Cerise, the sister he'd always loved and who had supported him, that he would use his inexhaustable money to give her anything that she wanted. However, Cerise never knew exactly what that was. She loved pretty things, but simple things, as well, and while the things he offered her: lessons, horses, parties, jewels, gowns ... they were all lovely, but didn't seem to fit into "anything that she wanted," and the more Colin pressed her to tell her what that was, the more she was desperate to know.

She found out when Lord Rylan of Allba was visiting Conare with the lovely noble he was courting, Constance of Rowan. After five minutes speaking to him at a party, she knew that, courting or not, what she wanted most of all was him.

And whether it was her endearing personality, her good looks, or the minor detail that her beloved brother was made of money, she got him.

Cerise now lives in Allba with her husband, Colin and her parents being frequent and very welcome visitors. She is slowly learning what a noblewoman does, precisely, from keeping house to riding to speaking with class to learning magic ... tasks that are nowhere near as easy as she'd always assumed the upper classes had it. While her early years there were deliriously happy, she has grown increasingly worried that she has yet to conceive an heir. She fears that she may be barren, and, desperate to keep her husband, will do absolutely anything to become pregnant.

PERSONALITY ;;

Cerise is a sweet, sunny airhead. She believes firmly in the inherant good of all human beings, and in always giving the benefit of the doubt. She is an trusting optimist to a fault.

She puts a high value in the importance of family, something that has shaped her life with her brother and parents and she wants to be sure she brings into her marriage and teaches her eventual children.

Cerise is not yet used to the things expected of her in the high life, and often makes social faux pas, despite all her efforts to be a proper lady. The many niceties of ettiquette that would have been foolish in the life she'd expected to live are still entirely foreign of her. What was endearing in the sister of a shoemaker's son turned wealthy merchant is utterly embarrasing in the wife of a ruling Lord. She's very socially awkward.

Cerise is aware that many don't think her a suitable match for Rylan, and this has caused her to become very insecure. The pressure of being a good wife to Rylan, to give him strong children and support him and always show a perfect face weigh heavily on her. She's terrified Rylan will suddenly see everything she lacks, a fear only compounded by their inability to conceive a child.

All her worries as a young woman were for Colin, never for herself, and so these feelings are unfamiliar to her. She has no idea how exactly to handle them.

Nevertheless, she does all she can to maintain her sunny, kind nature and give everyone the benefit of the doubt, while she buries herself in anything she can that she hopes might make her better so she can be the good wife she so wants to be.

APPEARANCE ;;

Cerise has long, flowing, beautiful pink hair, and sparkling, expressive violet-blue eyes. She's tall and graceful in appearance -- though not always in practice. She delights in the pretty things of the wealthy, so much that her choices in hairstyles and clothing and jewels are sometimes too much, but she has a poor sense of fashion beyonod what her untuned senses see as being beautiful, and others rarely have the heart to instruct her otherwise. She's slowly learning the poise and composure she's expected to have, with mixed results.
